Time indicated that Obama had demonstrated “the competence that makes Americans hopeful he might pull it off”. He now joins the ranks of others selected by Time as “Man of the Year” that includes Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin among recent notable selections.

Time informed its readers that it was unlikely they were surprised to see Barack Obama on the cover of its annual “Man of the Year” issue. Referring to Barack Obama, Time said, “he has come to dominate the public sphere so completely that it beggars belief to recall that half the people in America had never heard of him two years ago. He hit the American scene like a thunderclap, upended our politics, shattered decades of conventional wisdom and overcame centuries of the social pecking order.”

This marks the fifteenth time Barack Obama has been featured on the cover of Time magazine in the last 2 years. Undoubtedly, he will be appearing on Time’s cover many more times in future years.
