The mother of Barack Obama provided her son with the background and education to understand America and her role in the world.
At an early age Barack Obama learned the power of speech and the written word. Religion and church became core values in the life of Barack Obama, from an early point in the timeline of his life.

American Life

Devoted to his mother and church, his childhood rooted Barack Obama in values that are quintessentially American. When Barack Obama moved to Chicago, Illinois to work as a community organizer, he learned that the church was an important social institution in America. Barack Obama worked intensely with the church on the south side of Chicago, Illinois to better the lives of the people.

With the broad-minded outlook taught him by his mother, Barack Obama from the his early childhood to the adult portion of his timeline learned the art of communicating with broad constituencies, reflected in his impressive speech delivery to both church and secular forums.
