Barack Obama elected President of the United States
Barack Obama was elected the first African-American president of the United States of America on November 4, 2008. Obama won an historical election as the Democratic Party presidential candidate by defeating Senator John McCain, the Republican nominee for president and his running mate, Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska. Barack Obama, along with his vice presidential running mate, Senator Joe Biden, will succeed George W. Bush. As the 44th president, Obama will enter the White House in Washington DC at a time of great peril for America and the world. |
